As a reimagined ‘70s style pulled straight from Nike’s footwear archive, these Nike Daybreak Type Shoes have panelled mesh uppers made from a combination of white airy mesh, durable university blue suede and leather, completed with reinforced plastic heel and toe pieces which together add a distinctive character and playful look to the silhouette. The mesh uppers provide ventilation when on the move whilst the suede border around the traditional lace up fastening adds extra durability with a woven tongue label above that presents ‘N354’ branding. Around the front of the toes light green coloured suede protects this key area from repetitive abrasion whilst above on either side shaped suede overlays have rough top stitching to demonstrate the idea of prototype creation which is behind the N354 project. At the midpoint of the shoe outlined Swoosh tick emblems have been stitched in a shade of brown to stand out against the light tone mesh upper whilst a university blue leather tip can be found on the back of the heel where additional ‘N354’ branding has been printed, matching the design of the label around the edge of the exposed foam tongue. For extra protection at another key area, a large reinforced plastic heel cap adds further texture to the overall design and continues across the white foam midsole which sits above an iconic traction-focused rubber Waffle sole.
Designed as part of the Nike N354 project which draws attention to early prototypes created by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, the Nike Daybreak Type Shoes offer a piece of history with contemporary updates and materials that show off the design to its very best whilst incorporating elements of comfort and style. The outsole features a distinctive waffle tread pattern which was originally inspired by a waffle iron in Bowerman’s kitchen and made history when it was added to running shoes to provide athletes with improved grip during marathons.
